Hello! My name is Ethan, I'm a fourth-year Arts Practices BFA major and art history minor at CU Boulder. I was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and moved to Colorado during high school. I grew up doodling and taking early art classes throughout elementary school and when had to decide on a major, I wanted to follow something I love, so I decided to become an Arts Practices major. I enjoyed taking Digital Art I so I wanted to expand my knowledge and work with Digital Art II. Most of my work includes visual art including pen illustration and painting, so I'd like to expand my work to include pieces that don't involve hanging pieces on the wall. I've used a few programs and materials outside of classes that involve digital art including Procreate on my iPad, blender 3d, and Adobe Photoshop. I'm very excited to be exploring new areas of the art world, especially with a medium that allows for more creative freedom and uniqueness.
When we began working with artificial intelligence, I was hesitant, as what I had learned, witnessed, and experienced about the subject was daunting. It seemed that the medium was capable of taking over art made by real artists, and could be used for malicious purposes. Our conversations and labs presented new ways for artificial intelligence to provide new ways for digital media to become more interesting and meaningful. The images and work that I began generating became eerie and a bit nerve-racking. I see that as a natural progression for our work with glitches and computer-made subjects. I took this idea and ran with it, using motifs such as skeletons and dark forests to further project the idea of terror. The glitch effects combined with these motifs are extremely effective and I believe that these two themes meld seamlessly.
